Benjamin J. Ward has over 13 years of experience in the construction industry, with active project experience on North Carolina (NCDOT) and Virginia (VDOT) projects. Mr. Ward has been involved in the full construction project life cycle. On estimating pursuits, Mr. Ward has 6 years of experience with cost estimating and quantity take-offs on projects ranging from $30M to over $5.5B.

On active projects, Mr. Ward has seven years of experience as a Field Engineer, a Lead Project Engineer and a Deputy Design Manager on a wide range of D/B, D/B/B and P3 heavy civil construction and infrastructure projects ranging from $12M to over $600M. Additionally, Mr. Ward has experience in performing CPM scheduling, change order management, productivity and cost analyses, and work plan management.

Mr. Ward is a licensed Professional Engineer (Civil) in North Carolina and Virginia. He has a B.S. in Civil Engineering and a M.S. in Engineering Management from Clarkson University. Mr. Ward has experience in the transportation and infrastructure sectors, rail and mass transit, airport, renewable energy projects, and environmental remediation projects in the United States, Middle East, and Australia.

    • Deputy Design Manager on a $600M infrastructure project in Northern Virginia. The P3 scope included the extension and widening of the interstate lanes to accommodate variably tolled express lanes in both directions, four existing bridge replacements, four new bridge structures, one bridge widening, one bridge rehabilitation, interchange improvements, and traffic management system (TMS) improvements and signalization. Responsibilities included the overall coordination and delivery of the post-design submittals and the tracking and management of design updates as part of the master schedule during the design and construction phase of the project. Maintained diverse relationships between multiple parties (contractor, owners, designers) and acted as the communication interface. Also participated in constructability review and provided input to solve field-related issues.

    • Project management and CPM schedule management duties on a multi-phased $160M design-build project in China Grove, North Carolina, and a phased $290M design-build project in Statesville, North Carolina. Maintained and updated the project schedule on a monthly-basis and worked closely with the project team to plan and coordinate the field operations through the project lookahead schedules, derived from the project schedule. Analyzed critical path delays and performed prospective Time Impact Analyses (TIAs) to assist with negotiation of a $30M change order for additional contract time and compensation. Also performed field engineer duties, which included cost reporting and budgeting, change order estimation, field survey and layout tasks for various roadway scopes of work, and the development of work plans for self-performed and subcontractor-performed scopes of work on the project.

    • Project estimating experience and design-build pursuit experience on a multitude of construction projects. Performed quantity take-offs, cost estimation, subcontractor and vendor management, project buyout, project closeout, and project scheduling services for D/B, D/B/B, and P3 projects. Major scopes of work included earthwork, drainage, underground utilities, structures, retaining walls, concrete paving, asphalt paving and all ancillary scopes associated with complex and multi-phased infrastructure projects. Worked with owners and designers located across the United States, Middle East (including the United Arab Emirates and Qatar), and Australia.

    • Field inspection and quality control testing experience on a multitude of commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects across New York as an owner’s representative for public and private entities. Coordinated with other construction disciplines on scheduling of work. Ensured timely and accurate communication of inspection results to owners and contractors to progress work according to contract documents and specifications.
